Ceremony and Reception
Our ceremony will start right at 5:00pm on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at the Hairpin Arts Center which is located at 2810 N Milwaukee Ave (at the intersection of Diversey, Kimball, and Milwaukee) in Chicago, IL. The reception will be in the same place, immediately following. The suggested dress code for the wedding is cocktail/dressy casual.
We are also planning activities for Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday morning (details below). Our goal is to create opportunities for you to catch up with others attending who you already know, and to meet and get to know people from other parts of our lives.
Friday Evening Picnic
Join us for a picnic at our neighborhood park, Unity Park, 2636 N Kimball Ave. The park has a playground and a water feature (though the water turns off at 6pm). Join us whenever is best for you, we will be there from 4:30pm until about 9:00pm. http://www.unityparkchicago.org/
Saturday Morning/Early Afternoon Options
We’re hoping that by the end of the weekend, people from all different parts of our lives will feel a little more like one big family. Each of these activities will be a way to see some of Chicago and our neighborhood, and to mix and mingle with other guests.
Brunch Mixer
There are lots of tasty places for brunch or breakfast in the neighborhood, and we think this would be a great way to have people from different parts of our lives meet and get to know each other. We’ll have two brunch “shifts”–come to Hairpin either at 10am or at noon, and we’ll connect you with others and point you towards a great restaurant.
Help with Set-up
Many of you have graciously offered to help. We’ll have one hour shifts starting at 9am, 10am, and 11am so that those of you who want to help out can come for a little bit and then get back to having fun and exploring the city.
Walk the 606
This elevated trail is a great way to see a few Chicago neighborhoods. There are playground areas along the way, so this is nice for adult groups and kids who need to burn off some steam. The full trails is 2.7 miles, but there are multiple entry and exit points, so you can walk as much or little as you want. Meet at Hairpin at noon to walk/bus/carpool down to the trail together. http://www.the606.org
V
isit the Garfield Park Conservatory
This is not in our neighborhood, but it is not far. It is a beautiful and relaxing way to spend an hour or two, and there is no cost for admission. There is free parking and it is accessible by a 20 minute bus ride from our neighborhood. Meet at Hairpin at noon, and we’ll sort into carpools and/or trips via the bus. https://garfieldconservatory.org/
Attend a United Neighbors of the 35th Ward Meeting
We’ve talked with many of you about our neighborhood political organization. It just happens that our group has a member meeting the same day as our wedding. If you are curious and want to learn more about how our organization works, we encourage you to check it out. Kirsten normally helps plan these meetings, but she’ll be a little too busy to organize this one. This month’s meeting will feature a discussion with Illinois State Senator and Gubernatorial Candidate Daniel Biss. http://www.un35.org/ It will run from 10am-11:30am at Riley Elementary – 3650 W. School Street.
Story Time at City Lit Books
Stop into one of our neighborhood book stores for story time, “a fun time with read-alongs and sing-alongs for little ones of all ages.” It starts at 10:30am at 2523 N. Kedzie Blvd. http://www.citylitbooks.com/
Sunday Brunch
Join us for an open house-style brunch on Sunday morning at our house between 9am and 1pm. We will have guest parking permits so those who are driving can park on our block.
