Travel & Accomodations

Where to Stay:

For our wedding, we will gather and welcome our far-flung personal community of family and friends to the geographic community we call home. We love our neighborhood on the border of Logan Square and Avondale and most of the weekend’s events will happen in and around our ‘hood. We encourage you to become our neighbors for the weekend and stay in the area nearby.

We recommend renting an Airbnb  as an affordable and fun way to make yourself at home. Sharing an Airbnb is also a great way to get to get to know other guests! We’ve pulled together a list of promising-looking places here (you’ll need to create an Airbnb account to see it).  If you are new to Airbnb, we’ve laid out a few tips (and a discount code).

There are also a couple of boutique hotels close by, as well as plenty of options downtown or close to O’Hare for anyone preferring a more traditional hotel stay.

For easiest transportation we’d recommend being close to the Blue Line which runs along Milwaukee Avenue. But between the train, the buses and Lyft, almost anywhere in the neighborhoods of Logan Square, Avondale, or Wicker Park will work out just fine.

If you’d like a hand coordinating a shared Airbnb stay, or have any other questions or concerns about booking lodging, just let us know!

Getting Around:

Public Transit

For those comfortable with some walking (up to half a mile or so at a time) and walking up and down stairs, Chicago is easy and convenient to navigate by public transit. Don’t bring/rent a car if you don’t need one!

The venue where we’ll have the ceremony and reception at the intersection of Diversey, Kimball, and Milwaukee avenues. It is about a 5 minute walk from the Logan Square stop on the Blue Line of the “L”. It’s also readily accessible via the Diversey bus (#76) or Kimball bus (#82). Google maps has great public transit directions for navigating to and from wherever you might want to get to.

Taxis

Taxis are available to flag down at certain transportation hubs. For the most part though, we rely on Lyft or Uber (apps you can download to your smartphone) for trips when we’re feeling too lazy to wait for the bus. Depending on the distance, the cost of a lyft ride in both directions is often comparable to the price of street parking for the day.

Parking

For those who will traveling by car, parking in Chicago is somewhere in the middle range of pain-in-the-butt-ness. We will have some guest parking permits available that will allow people to park in street parking on the blocks immediately around our house for free. There is also paid street parking available within a block or two of most places in the neighborhood. The venue does not have a dedicated lot (nor will most airbnbs).

Getting here

By Plane

We recommend flying into O’Hare if possible. Following signs for “CTA” at the airport will take you to the Blue Line of the “L.” Get on any train that comes and take it to the Logan Square stop (depending on where you’re staying). From our house it’s often actually faster to take the train than a car or taxi (as well as cheaper).
